He is there...

The lover of silence draws close to God. He talks to Him in secret and God enlightens him. Jesus, by His silence, shamed Pilate; and a man, by his stillness, conquers vainglory. ~ St. John Climacus

O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You...Psalm 63 cries out to me each day. Some days it’s because I did wake up early and drew close to God in silence. I listened for His voice and communicated with Him from my heart. Other days it’s a reminder of my failings. My inability to wake up early, and my tendency to hit the ground running and not look back.  What I’ve noticed is that as much as I want to spend time with God in silence each morning, it’s also a discipline. It’s something that needs to be stuck to as one creates a habit like going to the gym.  I love God, and my faith is of utmost importance, so focusing on building a habit around spending quiet time in the mornings with Him seems rather baffling. Why do I need to work so hard at it?  There is a certain guilt around this, but we know that our God is a gracious God. He already knows our hearts. He knows our struggles. When we seek Him, he is there. And when we succumb to our frailties, and don’t seek Him...He is still there...waiting.

Blessings, Cynthia
